WATCHMEN 2!?! Oh, No, Say it Ain’t So!

Our pal Rich at Bleeding Cool has this to report:

[When] the news broke that Paul Levitz was stepping down from DC Comics as both President and Publisher, I wondered what that meant for the possibility of a Watchmen sequel. Certainly in a hundred years, you couldn’t expect there not to be one.

Well, it seems to be happening a lot sooner than I thought. I understand now that this considered a pet project of Dan DiDio, SVP-Executive Editor. That he is determined to impress new bosses by building on DC’s biggest selling comic book of all time with multiple prequel comic miniseries and spinoff ongoing projects.

Everyone knows this is a dumb idea.  Colossally, monumentally, existentially stupid!

But before you freak out too much, if such projects every come to fruition they are likely to slip into oblivion almost as soon as they appear.  Remember the Kingdom Come sequels and spin-offs?  We thought not.

SUSPIRIA Headed for Blu-Ray!

Posted in Movies, Sci-Fi and Horror with tags , , on February 4, 2010 by ghostradioworld

Some films are just made for blu-ray.  Dario Argento’s Suspiria is one of them.  It’s wild visuals full of vibrant primary colors is what this format is all about.  But U.S. DVD collectors wept a tear recently, when Europe was treated to this gem on blu-ray.   But we dried those tears quickly, because reports filtered out that the transfer was nothing to write home about.   But now American Cinematographer reveals this:

[Suspiria Cinematographer Luciano] Tovoli recently revisited Suspiria at Technicolor Rome to supervise a new HD transfer, which will result in a Blu-ray release this spring …

Time to start planning those Suspiria parties!

AVATAR Continues to Break Records!

The freight train of Avatar’s box office continues to roll, bringing dollars and new records every week.  This week it overtook Titanic, becoming the biggest movie of all time in worldwide box office dollars.  And this weekend it had the largest 7th weekend of any film ever with a take of $30 million.  Other films trailed far behind.   The openings of Edge of Darkness and When in Rome took in only $17.1 million and $12.1 million, respectively.

This week it will steal Titanic’s domestic crown.  When will this end?  We pity any filmmaker who isn’t James Cameron this year.

Put a Specimen on Your Desk!

Posted in Sci-Fi and Horror with tags , on January 31, 2010 by ghostradioworld

Here’s a bit of creepy goodness to put on your desk from Sideshow.  This series called “Specimens” even has a nifty back story:

The origin of the virus is yet unknown as humanity struggles to contain the Dead. Without answers, the hordes multiply rapidly. Few attempts to kill them have succeeded, but scientists have gathered a small number of specimens for testing and training. The answer seems to lay with the head, the brain of the once reanimated corpse. These specimens seem to offer a cure, and when they find one, you must be ready.
