Nikki Finke Bashes WONDER WOMAN Reboot!

Posted in Comics, Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Horror with tags , , , , on June 30, 2010 by ghostradioworld

Yup, DC Comics’ iconic superhero Wonder Woman is getting a reboot.  And Internet maven Nikki Finke is first out of the gate to bash it.  She argues that in the new costume (above), “[Wonder Woman] looks ready for Goth Day at the Sherman Oaks Galleria”.  She also decries the decision to give the reboot to a male writer, and suggests a campaign to “free Wonder Woman!”

Reboot writer J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5) doesn’t do himself any favors with this description of the new Wonder Woman:

This is Wonder Woman reborn, literally and metaphorically: fast, elegant, tough, smart…the savior of her people, their guardian and protector …

And he also takes time out to knock Denny O’Neill’s highly regarded WW reboot in the late sixties:

What we also haven’t seen before is her new look, the first significant change in her appearance since the character debuted in 1941 (not counting the mod look used briefly in the sixties, about which the less said the better).

This quote lead Mark Waid to post via Twitter:

Dear big-name comics egomaniac: just ONCE can you talk about your genius in an interview without crapping on the work of your predecessors?

Well said, Mr. Waid.

Video: Ghost Face in Window

The YouTube poster describes the video this way:

This is a video that I took on my mobile while we were messing around on the green. We saw a face in the window of a locked room. Keiren the manager took us up to look afterwards but there was no body there and the room is out of use. Couldnt sleep after I took this.

Creepy vid.  Here’s a screen grab of the face:

The face appears very solid.  So there’s no reason to believe it isn’t just a person.  But still …

Video: Ghost Body Falling Past Window

This is how the YouTube poster describes this video:

We were just messing about in school then this body fell past thewindow. It was screaming but there was nothing there. We were freaked out for days.

Interesting video.  Our problem with this video is that it doesn’t fully reveal the ground.  We think a dummy, which someone dropped, could be hiding out of frame.   However, if this a hoax, the acting is quite convincing.  It doesn’t possess that stilted “this is a hoax” quality.  But the videographer zooms out right before the body drops.  That seems too convenient.

We examined the “body” in the video.  It appears quite stiff and we couldn’t make out feet.  This suggests some type of constructed thing.  A dummy of some sort.

So we’re leaning toward “hoax” on this one.  But the genuine atmosphere in the video makes us unwilling to fully commit to that assessment.  And that’s why we’re sharing it with you.

They rolled out a black carpet for this premiere.   But nothing mournful about either the stars or fans reaction to the event.  Sample a bit of the madness in these videos:

EDWARD SCISSORHANDS Musical Opening in Brooklyn!

Posted in Movies, Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Horror with tags , , on June 24, 2010 by ghostradioworld

The musical version of Edward Scissorhands makes its debuts Friday (06/25/10)  at Brooklyn’s Bayard Studio Theatre.

Playbill says this of the production:

The dark fairy tale seeks to remind “audience members about lost innocence, pure love and the power of evil,” according to the producers. It’s billed as “a story about a man who was created by a mad inventor in a castle overlooking the perfect Rockwellian suburban hamlet. Unfortunately, Edward’s creator dies before he is able to finish what he set out to accomplish. Edward is left alone, isolated from the outside world with blades for fingers. Eventually Edward meets a door-to-door make-up saleswoman, who decides to take him home to live with her family in the town below.”

They also offer this on the Bayard Studio Theatre:

Crawford chose the Bayard Studio Theater because “it is a very unique experience,” according to production notes. “When you come in there is live music, you get your own candle lit table … you can drink. It’s reminiscent of a Parisian speakeasy.”

That may be laying it on a bit thick.  But Bayard is a unique space, and a smart choice for this production.

Tickets are still on sale (for only $15!) visit Bayard’s official website here for more information.
