DOCTOR WHO’S Next Companion Will be “Very Different”!

During an event in Australia, “Doctor Who” show-runner Steven Moffat had this to say about the Doctor’s next companion:

The Doctor will be saying hello to someone very different. He is going to meet someone in the very last place he could ever have expected.

Immediately, Internet forums were abuzz with the two most intriguing phrases from this statement  “someone very different” and that the companion will be met “in the very last place he could have every expected”.

Fan speculation ranges from alien companions, robot companions, the Doctor himself, and male companions.  And the “very last place” that has generated thoughts of Gallifrey, the Tardis, the moon, even inside the Doctor himself and other exotic locales.

But knowing Mr. Moffat none of these are even close to the mark.  Stay-tuned.  We will remain on top of the latest developments in this story.

THE EVENT Gets Lowest Ratings Yet!

It doesn’t look like “The Event” will be going out on a high note.  This week’s episode scored an all-time low for the series, racking up a rating of 1.1 with the 18-49 demo.  We’re only two episodes away from  the season (and probably the series) finale.  So it’s unlikely that things will look much rosier in the future.  On the plus side, the series itself has been hugely exciting.  On a healthier network this might have been a hit.  On NBC … need we say more?

Another Ratings Slip for “V”!

Sci-fi series “V”, after a week of stable ratings, saw another slip.  The Tuesday ep dropped 5% in the 18-49 demo, resulting in a rating of 1.7.  This show is clinging to the bubble.  On the edge between renewal and cancellation.  So we’ll c0ntinue to keep an eye on it.

“V” Down, Series Lowest Rating Yet!

Sandwiched between a repeat of “No Ordinary Family” and the cancellation bound “Detroit 1-8-7”, “V” racked up its lowest rating in series history, landing a 1.7 with adults 18-49.  Some industry analysts are suggesting 1.7 is the new 2.o, but we’re not buying it.  We think this series needs a significant bounce next week if it wants to avoid joining the cancellation pool.

Video: New BBC One Series OUTCASTS!

The BBC’s logline for their new sci-fi series “Outcasts”:

A group of courageous pioneers face a unique opportunity: the chance to build a new and better future on another planet.

The notion of stories about colonists on a new planet has been tried before.  It never seems to work.  Remember Spielberg’s “Earth 2”?  The other attempts you probably won’t remember.  But suffice it to say it’s a storytelling nut that has yet to be cracked.  Will “Outcasts” find the way?  Does this trailer suggest an answer?

“Flashforward” Gets Full Season Pick-up

ABC has ordered a complete season of the new sci-fi drama “Flashforward”, and has agreed to extend the season to 25 episodes, rather than the normal 22.

This is a sign of supreme confidence.  ABC is clearly pleased with the series’ strong performance in the ratings.   In its first three weeks of airing, it has averaged 10.7 viewers and a 3.6/10 rating/share with the crucial 18-49 demo.   The series also has strong DVR numbers.  DVR expanded viewership of the premeire to 14.5 million, bumping the rating to 4.9.

This is exciting news for fans of the show.  And count us among those!

V Remake Gets Split Season

The remake of the eighties classic alien TV show “V” has been getting excellent buzz.  But news was announced this week that the first season will be split into two parts.  A four episode “sampler” will air in November, and the remaining nine episodes to be shown in March.

ABC is apparently attempting to avoid competition with “American Idol” and the Winter Olympics.  But this move has fans worried.

It does seem an odd.  As this is often something you do with a show you don’t have much confidence in.  But perhaps they believe that in this age of fractured TV viewing the initial sampler will build excitement for the March return.

Guess it all depends on how well those four episodes play.  If it plays like an exciting movie which begs a sequel, this could work well.  But if it just plays like the first four eps of TV show, than such a schedule could just aggravate fans.
