From the blog “Beyond Death – Ghosts and other Mysteries“:

John Adams was the first US President to live in the mansion at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, now known as the White House. With its long history, it is not surprising that the White House would have its share of ghost stories associated with it.

Some of the ghosts connected with the White House include, Abraham Lincoln. President Lincoln is said to be the most active haunting and has been seen by several stately guests and residents. Queen Wilhelmina, of the Netherlands experienced the haunting when she was staying in the Lincoln Room. There was a knock, and when she opened the door, Lincoln stood there.

Some additional people who say they experienced the Lincoln haunting at the White House include, Eleanor Roosevelt, Theodore Roosevelt, Carl Sandburg, as well as many others.

Another ghost that is said to frequent the White House is Abigail Adams, who is often seen in the East Room, and the ghost of Dolley Madison has been witnessed in the Rose Garden.
