New “Jekyll and Hyde” Series Headed for ABC!

Frederick March (above) may look confused.  But there’s no confusion about the fact that remakes of classic tales are all the rage.   And Robert Louis Stevenson’s “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” is the latest tale to get such treatment.  Former Platinum Dunes alum, Sheldon Tuner has just sold a series to ABC entitled “Hyde”.  The concept:

A thirtysomething ER doctor with a degenerative eye condition who is conflict-averse and hesitant to be captain of his own destiny. After attempting an experimental treatment to improve his eyesight, he begins to experience a strange side effect — when he goes to sleep, his id manifests itself as Hyde, a fearless, gregarious personality who takes control where Grant cannot.

Sounds intriguing.   But it will be hard for this show to match Steven Moffat’s “Jekyll”.

Platinum Dunes remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street slashed its way to the top spot at the box office this weekend with an estimated take of $34 million.  Meanwhile, the overseas early opening of Iron Man 2 snagged an impressive $33 million, and is expected to take $175 million in its US opening next weekend.  Both films seem on track to meet studio expectations.

Internet mavens can whine all they like, but audiences clearly still love sequels and remakes.

FRIDAY THE 13th Sequel Dead!

Posted in Movies, Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Horror with tags , , , , , on April 23, 2010 by ghostradioworld

When recently asked via Twitter about Platinum Dune’s sequel to the reboot of the Friday the 13th (ah, that’s a mouthful), producer Brad Fuller responded simply:

it is dead … not happening

And so another story is broken on Twitter!  Who needs publicists?

Horror fans probably aren’t shedding too many tears about this.  But the remake was a hit at the box office, and the script for the sequel was reportedly read to go.  So we’re wondering what prompted this decision?

Photos: UPDATE: (This is Fake) Another Pic of Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger!

Posted in Movies, Photos, Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Horror with tags , , , , , , , , on July 26, 2009 by ghostradioworld

Update:  The above photo is a fake.  It’s a photoshopped version of this photo of Jackie Earle Haley from Little Murders:

Didn’t take long to disprove this one.  So much for the credibility of Forces of Geek.

A few days back we posted the first official photos of Jackie Earle Haley as “Freddy Krueger” in Platinum Dunes remake of Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street. They were pretty dark.  And didn’t show much.  You can see them here.

Then Forces of Geek posted the photo above, without stating its source, and claiming it be Jackie as “Freddy.”   But not all movie watchers are so sure about the pic.   Dread Central thinks it might just be “a make-up test,” and questions whether it’s even Jackie under that make-up.

Looks like Jackie to us.  But what do we know?  Dread Central promises to get to the bottom of this.  We too will update this story if the information warrants it.

Nope those aren’t stars of the film.  But rather producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form.  Nice hats, guys.

Anyway …

“Friday the 13th” Sequel in the Works

Posted in Movies, Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Horror with tags , , , , on February 17, 2009 by ghostradioworld

Andrew Fuller, the Producer of Platinum Dunes’ remake of Friday the 13th,  has this to say on his blog:

First of all, you can bet your ass that we want to do a sequel – I have said that a number of times, but now we have evidence to support that desire. My first call on Tuesday will be to all of the people we worked with at the studios to get moving on another Friday 13th movie. We loved making this one, and already have some thoughts about the next one. I have spoken to Derek (who plays Jason) and we all want to work together again, so I feel very strongly that he will be back. I also know who I want to write it, and will get into that later. I hope to make some announcements about a sequel very soon.
