Thanks to strong ratings (an average of 6.74 million per episode) TNT’s new Spielberg-produced, alien invasion series is getting a second season.  Great news for genre fans who’ve recently seen many new genre series get the axe before their time.   Clearly, the series mixing of heart-stopping action and deep human drama has been a winner with fans.  Frankly, we’re excited to get another series of this fun new show.

And aren’t you proud of us for not using any “Falling” puns in this story?  It was hard.  But we did it.

“Falling Skies” Reaches out to Non-Sci-Fi Fans!

You’ve got a new Sci-Fi show about to premiere.  You know Sci-Fi fans are gonna look in.  So what do you do?  Appeal to non-Sci-Fi fans.  And, with the premiere less than week away, that’s just what the producers and stars of TNT’s “Falling Skies” are doing.  Executive Producer Mark Verheiden told The Hollywood Reporter:

It’s not about the invasion – it’s about the resistance … It’s about finding hope in an otherwise hopeless situation.

While star Noah Wyle said:

Our show walks a really interesting line between being a character-based drama and being a sci-fi show … It’s not really one or the other but has a little something for both.

We appreciate what they’re trying to do.  They want  big numbers for the premiere.  But, frankly, it’s Sci-Fi fans are gonna make or break this show.

Dubbed “Mechs”, these anime-inspired robo-aliens from the upcoming TNT series “Falling Skies” are sure to excite a sci-fi fan or two.   Would love to see these in action.  Those legs look perfect for jumping and kicking.  And you haven’t lived till you’ve seen an anime-inspired robo-alien doing some serious kicking.  Until then, just join us after the jump for another fine photo of one of these techno-critters.

We’ll be watching this.  But is this really the most original plot Spielberg and company could have chosen?  Seems a real step down from the wonderful “Taken” from the last decade.  What do you think?

Here’s the trailer for the TNT sci-fi series “Falling Skies” created by Robert Rodat (Saving Private Ryan, The Patriot) and produced by Steven Spielberg.  Doesn’t look like the most original series in world.  Lots of “V”, War of the Worlds and Independence Day in there.  But still looks like quite a bit of fun.

But our opinions aren’t that important.  What do you think?  Is this the type of series you want to see?  Does this trailer get you get you psyched for the series?  Share your thoughts in the comments section.
