“Conan” and “Fright Night” Open Limply at Box Office!

This weeks two genre remakes Conan the Barbarian and Fright Night were bested by new release Spy Kids 4D, and Rise of the Planet of the Apes (in its third week) and The Help (in its second week).  Conan did the better of the two with an estimated weekend haul of $11 million versus Fright Night’s estimate of $8 million.

We can’t really intuit much from this.  Both films had weak buzz and early trailers that didn’t impress.  Sadly, this won’t stall the remake sequel bandwagon.  As, clearly, the rest of the list is full of them.

Here’s the first long clip of David Tennant as Peter Vincent in the remake of Fright Night.  I think Tennant fans will be very pleased.  He’s oh so very Tennant-ish.

Hollywood Reporter let slip that the remake of Total Recall has entered the casting stage, and the production is considering Colin Farrell, Michael Fassbender or Tom Hardy for the lead.  Farrell is considered the front runner.

Farrell, interesting enough, appeared in Minority Report.  A film which was originally developed as a sequel to Total Recall.  Both films were based on short stories by Philip K. Dick.
