No 3D for Harry Potter!

Warner Brothers announced today that they won’t be releasing a 3D version of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows –Part 1.  Some industry wags think this is due to the poor reaction to the studio’s post production conversion of Clash of the Titans.  The studio claims:

We will not have a completed 3D version of the film within our release date window. Despite everyone’s best efforts, we were unable to convert the film in its entirety and meet the highest standards of quality…  We, in alignment with our filmmakers, believe this is the best course to take in order to ensure that our audiences enjoy the consummate “Harry Potter” experience.

But we think it’s because the film would have been hampered with the awkward title of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 1: 3D.

Liebesman to Helm CLASH 2!

Remember Jonathan Liebesman?  No?  Well, way back in 2003 he directed a little fright fest called Darkness Falls.  And it looked like  he was on the cusp of a major career.  Although he made several minor films, this director has largely been off the Hollywood radar for the last seven years.  Well, that is about to change.  As he just signed to direct the sequel to Clash of the Titans.

More on this sequel after the jump.

CLASH OF THE TITANS Does Mythic Box Office!

Posted in Movies, Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Horror with tags , , , on April 5, 2010 by ghostradioworld

The remake of the eighties classic, Clash of the Titans tore up the box office this weekend.  It easily won the weekend with an estimated take of $61.4, more than doubling the take of the second film on the list Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Too Clash looks to have a strong chance of taking the top space next weekend as well without any real competition in the genre.  But Kick Ass will be released in two weeks which could take away some of Clash’s godly thunder.  But the next two weeks should probably be more than enough to confirm Clash’s hit status.

CLASH OF THE TITANS and HARRY POTTER (Maybe) to get 3D Releases!

Warner Brothers announced today that Louis Leterrier’s remake of the eighties classic Clash of the Titans will be getting a 3D releases!  However, 3D fans are somewhat skeptical.  The film wasn’t produced in 3D.  So many argue that it will be more FauxD than 3D.

But how true is that?  Since a lot of this film will feature CG rendered sequences much of the film will probably be indistinguishable from films produced in 3D.

Also, Warners is hinting that the last two films in the Harry Potter series will also be getting the 3D (fauxD) treatment.  Though there’s been no official word on this.

The 3D version of Clash of the Titans will hit theaters April 2, 2010, one week after the 2D release of the film.

Video: Trailer for CLASH OF THE TITANS Remake!

This just looks like a mash-up of clips  from 300, Troy, and Lord of the Rings.  Unfortunately, it isn’t.   The makers of this film aren’t that clever.

For fun, let’s look at how they sold the original back in ’81:

Cheesy, even by eighties standards, but, frankly, it still looks like more fun than the new one.  And it has Laurence Oliver … as Zeus!!

We’re mixed about Hollywood’s recent obsession with remakes.  But one thing we love about it:  The original films get fancy re-releases on DVD and/or Blu-Ray.  The original Clash of the Titans is the latest film to benefit from this.   The remake hits screens in late March 2010.  And we’ve just learned that Warner Home Video will release  a Blu-Ray early in the month, March 10, 2010 to be exact.

The Blu-Ray will feature a forty page booklet and these other features:

  • A Conversation with Ray Harryhausen featurette
  • Maps of Myths and Monsters Gallery
  • Trailers of this 1981 Original and the 2010 Version
  • Exclusive photo booklet of the new Clash of the Titans
  • Sound cool.   Count us in!
