Agnes Moorehead stars in this thrilling tale that reminds us that …

“The Old Ones are Hard to Kill ” which originally aired on The CBS Radio Mystery Theater on January 6, 1974.  This recording starts with an contemporary news broadcast and includes all the original commercials.  A nice slice of the 1970s.

“The River” Ratings Hold Steady!

The ratings for “The River” were still low this week.  But they held steady.  Scoring a 1.7 rating with the 18-49 demo.  This suggests, once again, that the audience who tuned in for the premiere has stuck with the show.  And it probably also means that much of the show’s “failure” can be laid at the feet of the marketing people.

J. J. Abrams’ new sci-fi crime drama premiered to a strong 3.3 rating with the 18-49 demo.  This is two tenths higher than “Terra Nova” and makes it the second highest new show premiere this season.  Only bested by “Revenge”.    This doesn’t bode well for a second season of “Terra Nova”.

TERRA NOVA Ratings Not Bronto-Sized!

Monday night’s premiere of Fox’s Spielberg produced sci-fi extravaganza “Terra Nova” scored a 3.0 rating, and an 8 share, with the 18-49 demo.  This landed it in third place behind CBS and ABC for the night.  This is likely a huge disappointment to Fox who were expected a major score from this expensive show.  The word “flop” is being bandied about.  An early cancellation looks likely.   Proving, once again, the weakness of sci-fi as a genre on the broadcast networks.

We were a bit puzzled about how to feature a bit of Old Time Radio that would in some way honor the 45th Anniversary of Star Trek.  Then we had a brainstorm:  How about an episode of the “Have Gun Will Travel” radio show, based on a script by Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry?  And it’s an episode with a horror element.  Pretty cool, huh?

“Have Gun Will Travel” was a great TV series.  But many actually prefer the radio version.  We’re not sure about that.  But we think it’s a great series and  John Dehner is wonderful in the lead role originated by Richard Boone on TV.

Audio: INNER SANCTUM – “The Dead Walk at Night”

A few days ago, we shared an episode of “CBS Radio Mystery Theater” which used a creaking door in its opening.   Today we turn to the show which originated the creaking door opening:  “Inner Sanctum”.  And we share an episode from September 28, 1952 entitled “The Dead Walk at Night”.

As with most “Inner Sanctum” stories this involves a disturbing murder and the even more disturbing aftermath:   This time involving a cane that won’t stop tapping.
