THE EVENT Gets Lowest Ratings Yet!

It doesn’t look like “The Event” will be going out on a high note.  This week’s episode scored an all-time low for the series, racking up a rating of 1.1 with the 18-49 demo.  We’re only two episodes away from  the season (and probably the series) finale.  So it’s unlikely that things will look much rosier in the future.  On the plus side, the series itself has been hugely exciting.  On a healthier network this might have been a hit.  On NBC … need we say more?

As “The Event” inches today likely cancellation the Monday airing dropped a tenth of a point to a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demo.  Although it won’t help “The Event” this low consistency is something future programmers need to look at.  Further analysis of the demo is also needed.

Another there hasn’t been an announcement, cancellation of “The Cape” is all but certain.  Last night’s episode just underlined this.  The episode dropped another tenth of a point, realizing a rating of 1.1 with the 18-49 demo.  However, we’re still enjoying the program.  And will enjoy it to the bitter end.

“The Cape” Scores a Series Low in the Ratings … Again!

“The Cape” still offers much onscreen excitement.  But the ratings have flat-lined.  Last night’s episode scored a 1.2 rating with the 18-49 demographic.  A series low.  Only a superhero-sized miracle could save this show now.  We expect NBC to air the remaining episodes then let it slip off into the night, like other failed superhero shows before it.

“The Cape” Ratings Down, “V” Ratings Up!

A mixed week for two of our favorite shows.  The third episode of “The Cape” saw a 31% fall to a 1.8 rating with adults 18-49.  While “V” had a modest recovery, up 5%, lifting it to important 2.0 ratings threshold with adults 18-49.  Neither show is at immediate cancellation risk.  But both are hovering on the bubble.

We’re sad that “The Cape” was given a Monday slot.  Its strong family appeal made it a perfect fit for Sunday.  But we’re glad to see how the story is developing on “V”.  It’s really beginning to live up to its promise.  Still not at the level of Kenneth Johnson‘s original mini-series.  But it’s getting there.  Definitely getting there.

“The Cape” Premiere Ratings Solid and Stable!

NBC’s new superhero drama “The Cape” had its two-hour premiere on Sunday.  It scored a 2.6 rating with an average of 8.4 million viewers.  The ratings also remained sable throughout the two hours.  The show began with a rating of 2.5 and ended with a rating of 2.6.   This clearly suggests that those who were watching it, were liking what they saw.

We were somewhat skeptical of NBC’s new superhero series “The Cape”, but this new promo has us stoked.  This may just be clever editing, but this promo suggest a much deeper series than we previously imagined.

The two-hour premiere is scheduled to air January 9, 2010.
