We about a year and a half from the theatrical release of The Hobbit.  But that’s not too soon to get a bit of a peek into the production with these three exclusives from Entertainment Weekly.  We get our first look at Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins (above).  And quite a Bilbo he makes too.  Here’s what P.J. has to say about him:

He fits the ears, and he’s got some very nice feet … I think he’s got the biggest hobbit feet we’ve had so far. They’re a little bit hard to walk in, but he’s managed to figure out the perfect hobbit gait.

And speaking of feats, Ian McKellan is  doing one of the hardest feats in the movie business: Playing younger.  See how he fares after the jump.

Is There a Curse of THE HOBBIT Movie?

Posted in Books, Movies, Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Horror with tags , , , , , , , on April 24, 2011 by ghostradioworld

Some think so.  And here’s another bit of evidence to add to the pile from P.J.’s Facebook page:

I am sad to report that Rob Kazinsky, who was cast in the role of Fili, is having to leave The Hobbit and return home, for personal reasons.  Rob has been terrific to work with and his enthusiasm and infectious sense of humour will be missed by all of us. I should say that Rob’s departure will not affect ongoing filming of The Hobbit, nor will it impact work done to date, as we had yet to film much of Fili’s storyline. At the moment we are shooting scenes featuring Bilbo without the Dwarves, which will give us time to find a new Fili. I’ll keep everyone posted with updates as they come.

Cheers,

Peter J

If stuff like this continues expect the curse talk to ratchet up!

Elijah Wood Will Appear in “The Hobbit” Movie!

Posted in Books, Movies, Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Horror, Writing with tags , , , , , , , on January 7, 2011 by ghostradioworld

The One Ring is reporting today that Elijah Wood will be appearing in Peter Jackson’s film of The Hobbit.  They claim:

TORn can confirm that as of now, the plans are to feature Frodo in the opening sequence of the films. It is unlikely that studio Warner Bros. or Team Jackson would change the script at this point in response to the web buzz so we may have just “spoiled” December 2012 for some, but we warned you.

The sequence will have Frodo reading, or having recounted to him, the tale of “The Hobbit” from Bilbo’s book.  As Tolkien fans all know “The Hobbit” (within the conceit of the LOTR universe) is taken from “The Red Book of Westmarch” written by Bilbo Baggins.  And if you don’t understand the last sentence, don’t worry, you probably had better things to do in High School than memorize Tolkien lore.  Sadly, we didn’t.

This news suggest that someone is worried that people won’t understand this film’s connection to LOTR.  Seems a bit short-sighted.  They’ll probably argue that Wood as Frodo is  a major draw.  Perhaps.  But we doubt it.
