James Camerson Throws PIRANHA 3D Under the Bus!

In an interview with Vanity Fair, James Cameron had this to say about Piranha 3D:

I tend almost never to throw other films under the bus, but that is exactly an example of what we should not be doing in 3-D. Because it just cheapens the medium and reminds you of the bad 3-D horror films from the 70s and 80s, like Friday the 13th 3-D. When movies got to the bottom of the barrel of their creativity and at the last gasp of their financial lifespan, they did a 3-D version to get the last few drops of blood out of the turnip. And that’s not what’s happening now with 3-D. It is a renaissance—right now the biggest and the best films are being made in 3-D. Martin Scorsese is making a film in 3-D. Disney’s biggest film of the year—Tron: Legacy—is coming out in 3-D. So it’s a whole new ballgame.

Video: International Trailer for Joe Dante’s THE HOLE

We love Joe Dante’s movies.  So we can’t get enough of the promotional material for his first film in seven years … The Hole.   Like the cool Italian one sheet above.

This looks like classic Dante territory.  And we bet Dante, the connoisseur of fifties genre pix, understands the proper use of 3D better than anyone working today.  With all that in mind, check out the new international trailer:

And this is fun.  Here’s a shot from the trailer of the digitally de-aged Jeff Bridges:

Ridley Scott ALIEN Prequel to be in 3D!

In an interview with Shadow Locked, Alien art director Roger Christian said:

Ridley’s doing the next Alien in 3D.

Christian went on to say:

Ridley told me some of his ideas when we were here in Toronto. He has a very clear understanding of where this should go. They kind of stopped dead one of the greatest horror franchises there’s ever been, and it had legs to go on. So I’m hoping he’ll revive another three. The world certainly wants it, and the fans want it – everybody.

We’re still skeptical about this source.  We await confirmation directly from the Scott camp.  But, given the mania for 3D these days, we wouldn’t be surprised if this news were true.

CLASH OF THE TITANS and HARRY POTTER (Maybe) to get 3D Releases!

Posted in Books, Movies, Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Horror with tags , , , , , , on January 27, 2010 by ghostradioworld

Warner Brothers announced today that Louis Leterrier’s remake of the eighties classic Clash of the Titans will be getting a 3D releases!  However, 3D fans are somewhat skeptical.  The film wasn’t produced in 3D.  So many argue that it will be more FauxD than 3D.

But how true is that?  Since a lot of this film will feature CG rendered sequences much of the film will probably be indistinguishable from films produced in 3D.

Also, Warners is hinting that the last two films in the Harry Potter series will also be getting the 3D (fauxD) treatment.  Though there’s been no official word on this.

The 3D version of Clash of the Titans will hit theaters April 2, 2010, one week after the 2D release of the film.

To pick this project:

“Drive Angry” [which]  centers on a man driven by rage who is chasing the people who killed his daughter and kidnapped her baby. The vendetta/rescue spins out of control as the chase gets bloodier by the mile, leaving bodies strewn along the highway.

To do:

It’s that simple.

Wonder if Cage will have a special wig designed for 3D?

halloween 3d

Obviously spurred by the trouncing they got from The Film Destination 3D this weekend, the Weinstein Company announced today that there will be a third film in the rebooted “Halloween” series.  And this next entry will be in, you guessed it, 3D!  The film will be titled … wait for it … Halloween 3D!

The film is already slated for release next summer, and Harvey Weinstein says Rob Zombie is out as director.

This news is neither especially exciting, nor is it unpredicted.  But what is surprising is that the Halloween series has never had a 3D entry before.  Back in the eighties when every horror franchise milked its box office potential with a 3D entry, Halloween eschewed this particular choice, and foisted the usual 2D horrors on us, again and again.
