THUNDERBIRDS ARE GO … AGAIN!
According to a press release on the WETA website, a reboot of Gerry Anderson’s “Thunderbirds” (carrying the working title “Thunderbirds are Go!”) is currently in pre-production. Intriguingly, the show “will be produced using a unique mix of CGI animation and live-action model sets.” It’s unclear what this means, but it suggest the series could have a look as unique as the original.
The series will begin with 26, 30 minute episodes set to begin airing some time in 2015. It will be shown on ITV’s children’s network CITV. It will be a co-production of ITV Studios, the WETA Workshop and Pukeko Pictures. The latter is a children’s television production company founded by WETA founders Richard Taylor and Tania Roger, and children’s author Martin Baynton. They are probably best known for the CGI series “Jane and the Dragon” which airs in the U.S. on the Qubo network. “Thunderbirds are Go!” will be written by Rob Hoegee; a writer very familiar with children’s programming, having contributed to such shows as “Generator Rex”, “Teen Titans”, and “Ben 10”.
The series will be executive produced by Estelle Hughes for ITV Studios, Giles Ridge for ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVS GE) and Richard Taylor and Andrew Smith for Pukeko Pictures.
