ART: Cover Art for Superman #1, Superboy #1 and Supergirl #1! (And Action #1 Promotional Image!)
Here’s the cover for Superman #1 by Georges Perez. We must say we aren’t crazy about the costume changes. (Jim Lee was responsible for the redesign.) Superman’s costume is iconic. Leave it alone. Some have suggested these costume changes are a way to get around the court decision in DC’s case with Siegel and Shuster estates. We don’t think so. The changes we need to be more significant.
Superboy and Supergirl after the jump …
Are we ever going to get a proper Superboy again? This tron style incarnation just ain’t working of us. And though we poo-pooed the notion of changes to the costume had a connection to legal battles in the case of Superman, we think it might be true with Superboy. The decision in the Superboy case was much clearer. DC owns very little, if any, of the character.
We don’t mind these changes as much as the other two. Still would like them to stay with the iconic originals. The art here is done by Mahmud A. Asrar.
This rather wonderful drawing by Rags Morales is being described as a “promotional image” for the new Action Comics rather than the cover. But, frankly, we prefer this to all the covers. We realize this isn’t an official costume either. But we wouldn’t mind seeing Supes wear it for a bit.
