Update: Bird Death Phenomena Expands to Louisiana, Kentucky, and Sweden!
Only a few days ago the web and cable channels were abuzz with reports on the death of over 3,000 red-winged blackbirds in Beebe, Arkansas. Now this same phenomena seems to be occurring in Louisiana, Kentucky, and Sweden.
Over 500 dead red-winged blackbirds were discovered littering the highways of Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana on January 3, 2011. While, the same day, dozens of dead birds were discovered in the backyard of a woman in Gilbertsville, Kentucky. And in the farflung town Falköping southeast of Skövde, Sweden 50-100 Jackdaws fell dead from the skies.
And our regular readers will be familiar with the explanation Swedish officials offered for the bird’s deaths:
Our main theory is that the birds were scared away because of the fireworks and landed on the road, but couldn’t fly away from the stress and were hit by a car.
It’s odd that this same bizarre theory is being ultized by officials in different countries thousands of miles from one and other. Smells of an organized cover-up to us. Or very lazy scientists with CNN.
This story is feeling more and more like a Science Fiction movie every day.
