A VERY, PULPY CHRISTMAS!

Before the paperback book.  Before comics.   There were the Pulp.   They were named for the cheap pulpwood paper on which they were printed.  But they were famous for their exciting, often lurid covers.  The covers really sold these magazine.  So, like many other mags, when Christmas rolled around, they’d attach a Christmas theme to the covers.  But, being pulps, it never was quote as simple as that.

“Terra Nova” Ratings Drop Again!

Halloween wasn’t kind to the dino-ducking Shannons of Fox’s “Terra Nova”.  The series dropped 25% over the previous episode to a new series low rating of  2.1 with the 18-49 demo.  However, let’s assume this family show suffered from conflicts with Halloween festivities and check back in a week to see how things stand.

From Whitley Strieber’s website Unknown Country comes this special Halloween story.  And it’s a doozy!  Realistic.  Apocalyptic.  And dark, dark, dark.  So no wonder it’s called “Darkness Absolute”.  So turn the lights out, if you dare, and hit the play button.


Surprisingly, Strieber performed this story without a text, a note or even editing.  You can download an mp3 of the story here.

Back in ’08, Chris Eccleston recorded a series of spooky tales with a demonic spin for Christmas.  We’ve already posted “Thurlow’s Christmas”, now it’s time for Saki‘s classic tale “She-Wolf”.  This tale reiterates that common holiday saw:  Don’t practice dark arts at a house party.

This comes from a series of demonic Christmas stories that former Doctor Who actor Christopher Eccleston recorded for the BBC in 2008.  In this installment, Eccleston reads the John Kendrick Bangs story “Thurlow’s Christmas.”  A tale about a writer who struggles to finish a story in time for Christmas, and the demonic forces behind his struggles.
