This weekend “John Carter” disappointed at the box office, coming in a not too close second to “The Lorax”. Might this story this weekend have told another story had audiences been treated to a different version of Edgar Rice Burrough’s sci-fi character? Here you can judge from yourself. As we give you a taste of two versions that might have been: First (above) we have some tests for an animated version from the 1930. And second (below) we have a presentation by “Sky Captain” director Kerry Conran.

Video: John Carter (of Mars)!

For an adaptation of one of the most exciting series of Science Fantasy novels, it looks awfully dull and generic. (And we bet they lopped the “of Mars” off the title because of the poor performance of Mars Needs Moms. ) Let’s hope this is just the case of a weak trailer.
