For their 44th issue, the official Star Trek magazine decided to have a bit of fun. They created cover that pays tribute to the Gold Key “Star Trek” comics. But it pays tribute not merely to those comics in general. But to a very specific issue.

There are actors. There are stars. There are icons. And then there’s William Shatner. For Shatner cannot be contained by simple labels. And his status in pop culture grows in height and breadth every day. Had he only played “Captain Kirk” on “Star Trek” his impact would be massive. Had he only done the work before that. He’d be remembered. Had he only done beloved “bad” talk-sung recordings of popular songs, he’d be good for a laugh or three. But Shatner is all those things and more. And he just doesn’t stop working.

We’ve gotten some great responses to the previous William Shatner videos we posted, so here’s another one. It’s just shy of 18 years since this interview aired, but boy has television changed! You just don’t see interviewers who are as tough, prepared, and professional as Tom Snyder. He doesn’t let Shatner get away with much. But he never seems rude or hectoring. The results? A damn entertaining interview.

Here’s another post in honor of Star Trek’s 45th Anniversary. Here we look back at a joint appearance of William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy celebrating the show’s 25th Anniversary. So, in a way, this is the 20th anniversary of the 25th anniversary. If that makes any sense. Anyway, it’s a very cool video.
