From The Advertiser:

City-based photographer Andrew Kitt felt chills down his back as he processed his pictures from a photo shoot at Cinema City.

As he flicked between two images of the venue’s courtyard, he noticed a shadow in one of the pictures that was absent from the next shot in the sequence.

Zooming in on the image on his computer, Mr Kitt saw what looked suspiciously like a figure. As he looked closer, it appeared as a hunched shape wearing what could, with a little imagination, be described as Tudor-style dress.

“The hairs on the back of my neck went up when I first saw it. I’m keeping an open mind. I’m not saying it’s a ghost or anything, but it is certainly strange,” said Mr Kitt.

He took the picture from steps overlooking the courtyard at about 10.40pm one night last month , and while he cannot explain the shot he is adamant that it has not been tampered with in any way.

“It’s not a hoax. Nothing has been done to that image,” he said.

This photo was posted on Weird Chicago, and the poster notes that the picture was taken in the Florentine Ballroom in the Congress Hotel in downtown Chicago.  The site goes on to say:

No one was walking past at the time, and it showed up on the LCD screen, so I know it wasn’t photoshopped in. It COULD be something like a camera strap, or some other camera whatzit, I suppose. It’s worth noting that the Congress was being renovated – one of the few things ghost hunters DO agree on (every ghost hunter thinks most of the others are quacks) is that renovations tend to [lead] to more sightings.

Here’s a detailed blow-up of the anomoly in the photo:

Ghost Gives Home Improvement Advice

Posted in Ghosts, Weird News with tags , , , , , , , , on April 16, 2009 by ghostradioworld

Why pay an expensive decorator, when a local spirit might do the same job for you without charging a fee?

When Marilyn Michau bought a house in Bathhurst, this is just the type of spectral advice she got.  And from the ghost of a nun!

0000018056

From Daily Dispatch online:

Soon after buying the house, Michau dropped her daughter, Michaela , at a medium’s house in KwaZulu-Natal for a consultation.

“When I went to drop her off the medium came running out and asked if I was coming to see her as she had some messages for me from a nun.

“I was overwhelmed by this bit of news and sat down immediately to hear what my nun had to say.”

According to Michau, the nun had told the medium to “thank me for listening to her and buying the house”.

“She had waited for over 100 years for someone to come along that could love the house as much as she had, and she had chosen me.

“She described the house exactly and asked me to renovate and restore it to its former glory particularly by making the upstairs windows into doors again.”

Michau followed the nun’s instructions “to the letter” and restored the house.

“This is my home, I never want to leave,” she said. “I have grown quite attached to my ghost.”

Film Crew Seance Turns Frightening!

seance

From the Lancashire Telegraph:

A FILM crew got a little more than they bargained for when making a documentary about the Pendle witches.

As part of Pendle’s Paranormal Road Map, presented by Clitheroe-based TV historian Simon Entwistle, the crew bravely ventured into a barn on Pendle Hill to conduct a seance in the hope of contacting the spirits of the witches.

According to Simon, the team got a fright when three of them ‘became possessed’, causing them to turn ‘distressed and violently ill’.

Simon described the material, which also includes a dramatic reconstruction, as the best he had ever seen.

And he is convinced the witches’ 400-year-old story is worthy of a place on the silver screen.

The 11-strong film crew, with a stunt man and 20 actors in 17th Century attire, descended on Pendle Hill to make the documentary.

But it was not long before the ‘spooky’ aspect of the setting became apparent.

An elaborate stunt had to be cancelled when a seemingly fit horse involved went lame, according to Simon.

The first part of the film deals with the history of the Pendle witch trials and what is now considered an appalling miscarriage of justice.

Members of re-enactment group, 17th Century Life and Times, were on hand to ensure complete historical accuracy.

Simon said they did a “fantastic job.” He added: “For me personally, it’s the best material I have ever seen relating to the Pendle witches.

“It’s the best story in East Lancashire. In America they have a huge museum in Salem and quite proud of the story.

“People come from all over for the Pendle witch tours. If Steven Spielberg got his teeth into it I’m sure he’d do a fantastic job.”

The latter part of the material features the seance, co-ordinated by renowned ghost hunter Roy Basnett and the Pathfinder PI team.

Director Mark Howard, whose previous credits include Roddy Smythe Investigates with Peter Kay, said: “Almost 400 years on from the actual event, here we are, with actors in clothing from the period, possibly walking in the very same tracks trodden by the original protagonists. Bit of a weird feeling really.”

The tour around the hill, described by the crew as “informative and unsettling,” also features Liverpool actress and radio presenter Margi Clarke and BBC radio presenter Alanna Rice.

It was produced by Manchester-based independent company GCH Entertainment and filming took place on Sunday April 5.

A DVD release is scheduled for October and negotiations are ongoing to secure TV transmission in the future.

Photo: A Second Ghost Photo From Tantallon Castle

Posted in Ghosts, Photos with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on April 3, 2009 by ghostradioworld

Last week the paranormal community was all abuzz when a compelling ghost photo taken at Tantallon Castle was published in the Sun.  We covered that story here.

Well, yesterday another Tantallon Castle ghost photo emerged.

SCIENCE Ghost 172942

Details on this photo from Yahoo News:

The second photo was taken by Grace Lamb, from Edinburgh, at the same location 32 years ago. It shows her late husband Hugh and two children Paul and Kelly – and behind them, what looks like a female figure staring out of an opening above the window in the original ghost photo.

As before, Mrs Lamb does not recall seeing the face when she pressed the camera button. The figure was only noticed when the photograph was developed and has been a topic of heated debate by the family ever since.

The family sent the photo to Prof Wiseman after seeing news coverage of the original Tantallon “ghost”.

Although not as compelling as the first photo, this photo nonetheless increases interest in this site and the original photo.  And we bet people who’ve visited this site in the last thirty years will be scouring their holiday snaps in the months ahead.

What do you think of these photos?  Have you ever been to Tantallon Castle?  Anything spooky occur?

True Ghost Story: The Drowning Girl

Another spooky true ghost story from  Ghost Village:

Irene – Gloucester, Massachusetts – 1989

My name is Irene, and I have been investigating the paranormal for 10 years. The reason why I got interested in the paranormal happened when I was a child. This is what happened to me.

When I was eight-years-old I was sleeping over my grandparents’ house. My Nana woke up very early and I always liked waking up with her to help her cook breakfast. She was an early bird and always woke up before the sun came out. That night I woke up and got out of bed. I looked out my window and it was still dark, sp I wasn’t sure what time it was. I opened my bedroom door and started walking down the stairs slowly because I was listening for anyone to be up. I stopped in the middle of the stairway, and when I did I heard a voice of a young girl whisper something in my right ear. I can’t remember what she said or even if I understood it or not, but I got freaked and ran up the stairs to hide under the covers.

I soon fell asleep and while I was sleeping I had this dream. I was under water and couldn’t get up. Something was pulling me down and I felt like I was drowning. I had my eyes open the whole time but all I saw was this light and water all around me. I started to breathe the water in and started choking. Then I woke up. When I woke up I was coughing because I was really holding my breath while I was dreaming. I got out of bed and stood in front of the window. It was daylight out and the sun was up. I stood there for a few seconds and then soon realized that I was standing in a puddle. I turned around and there was water falling down (kind of like a waterfall, but down the walls) there were puddles everywhere, then I realized that I was sopping wet. My hair was dripping (like I just got out of the shower). The bed was wet; there were two-inch puddles of water in the bed all around me. So I freaked out and ran down the stairs. I ran right into my cousin who was coming up the stairs to wake me for breakfast. I was crying and just grabbed his hand and took him back up to the room.

By the time we got back there about a minute later, everything was dry — the bed was dry, the sheets, and the puddles were gone — all except me. My hair was still so wet that when I finally calmed down to explain what had happened to my cousin, I actually rung out my hair. It was so strange. I thought of every possibility that I could. I thought that maybe I was sleepwalking and went into the bathroom. But that’s impossible because there is only one bathroom in the house and it’s off of the kitchen. If I went there, someone would have seen me. There are no water pipes upstairs. And it was not pee. There was too much water to be that. And it was clear, plain water. I still don’t understand it and ever since that night I have been studying the paranormal and helping other people. My cousin never slept there again and neither have I. My grandparents didn’t seem surprised when I told them what had happened. They just sort of shrugged it off. Since then both my grandparents died in the same room at different times in the house. Today I co-own the house. There have been other people living there and they also report some activity. They are moving out soon because of this. Now I can finally go back and face this, and possible try to help the girl that has drowned.

Mountain Resort Haunted by Poltergeist!

From Stuff.co.nz:

Mt Cook village residents are stumped but not spooked by recent supernatural experiences in the national park’s oldest mountain hut.

Mountain guides, visitor centre employees, a helicopter pilot and a cafe manager have all reported paranormal experiences in and around the old hut high up on the Hooker Glacier.

The Hooker hut was built nearly 100 years ago, is a three-hour walk from the visitor centre and sits about 1100 metres above Mt Cook village.

Department of Conservation (DOC) mountain guide Jane Morris and visitor centre assistant Monica Yeoman experienced the surreal when they spent the night of their lives in the hut last Friday.

Ms Morris said she understands their account of paranormal activity could be cause for ridicule.

However, she believes there has been a lack of investigation into the countless reports of spooky happenings in the hut.

Both of them explained the spooky happenings in and around the hut and the lack of investigation surrounding events.

The pair left the village after work and arrived at the hut around dusk on March 20. It wasn’t until they had finished dinner and hopped into their sleeping bags that things started to rattle in the night.

“We’d only been in bed for about 15 minutes when I heard footsteps on the deck outside,” Ms Morris said.

“It sounded like someone was unloading a pack.

“The noise was constant until I heard the sound of an ice axe hitting the corrugated iron.

“It certainly wasn’t an animal as the disturbance sounded organised.”

Ms Yeoman had woken by that stage and both went outside to look around only to discover nothing.

After returning to bed, it was only a matter of five minutes before both women heard what they described as the sound of pots clanging.

It was a sleepless night for both of them after that as the relentless sound of clanging and shuffling continued.

“The noises were quite purposeful,” Ms Morris said.

Both of them admitted to being “freaked out” initially but agreed the experience was intriguing once they got use to the noises.

They left the hut the following morning to continue the day hike and returned in the afternoon to retrieve some gear.

Ms Morris said she felt a presence on her return to the hut although it wasn’t menacing.

Both women said they are keen to return to the hut to discount any skepticism.

For more than 50 years, there have been numerous reports of paranormal activities at Hooker hut.

Peter Graham outlined his experience with the ghost of Hooker hut in Mick Bowie’s book The Hermitage Years. Graham was the proprietor of the Glacier Hotel at the Franz Josef Glazier for many years and his infamous tale was often told in the light of an open fire late in the evening.

The original hut was built in 1910 and rebuilt in 1948.

On its original site, it was visible from the Hermitage and was considered quite a landmark.

However, in 1963 it was moved back intact some 40 metres on to new foundations, away from ominous cracks in the crumbling moraine wall and out of sight from the Hermitage.

St. Patrick’s Day Ghost!

Ferryboat Inn, Cambrideshire

Ferryboat Inn, Cambrideshire

Inside the Ferryboat Inn in Cambridgeshire, which claims to be the oldest pub in the UK,  there is a stone marking the grave of Juliet Tewsley.

The story of Juliet Tewsley is a tragic one.

According to legend, in 1050 AD, Juliet, a beautiful 17 year-old, was desperately in love with a local woodcutter named Thomas Zoule.

But Zoule repeatedly rejected her attentions.

On March 17th, Juliet confronted Zoule in woods of Cambridgeshire, and attempted once again to rely her feelings.  Zoule was unmoved.  Distraught by this turn of events, Juliet hanged herself from a nearby tree.

As was the custom of the time with suicides, she was buried at the place of her death.

Many years later when the Ferryboat Inn wished to expand, they were unsure what to do about this grave.  They finally decided to leave it undisturbed, placing a stone on the floor marking it.

It is said that on each year on St. Patrick’s Day (March 17th, the date of her death) her ghost can be seen, dressed in white, walking toward the river.

They have this to say about the photo:

This is a group photo of me with my co-workers in the early 1990s at the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce. After careful inspection of the photograph, I noticed a face immediately to my left, also facing the camera. I asked the employee who occupies that office space behind us if she knew who this person was. No she did not, she replied. She also confirmed that she was not in her office that day the photo was taken; therefore, no one could have been in her office at any time. To this day, this phenomena remains a mystery.
