Ratings for “Alcatraz” Continue to Fall!

After its strongish premiere, the ratings for for Fox’s  “Alcatraz” have fallen every week.  And this week that fall pushed it further below 2.0 rating barrier, only receiving a 1.8 rating with the critical 18-49 demo.  It’s generally felt once ratings fall below 2.0 that show could be cancelled at any time.   This is the second week below that number.

“Terra Nova” Ratings Drop Again!

Halloween wasn’t kind to the dino-ducking Shannons of Fox’s “Terra Nova”.  The series dropped 25% over the previous episode to a new series low rating of  2.1 with the 18-49 demo.  However, let’s assume this family show suffered from conflicts with Halloween festivities and check back in a week to see how things stand.

TERRA NOVA Ratings Down!

“Terra Nova’s” saw a drop in the ratings Monday, scoring a 2.5/6 rating/share with the 18-49 demo. But all of Fox’s ratings were down due to the over-run of a baseball play-off game which delayed ET transmissions of their line-up by almost an hour. So we can’t read too much into these numbers.

TERRA NOVA’s Suprising Ratings Hold!

Fox and Fanboys collectively cringed at the weak opening ratings for “Terra Nova”.  It led many to foresee an even more disastrous second week drop, and an early cancellation.  In fact, that seemed likely.  So imagine everyone’s surprise when the initial overnights showed the ratings holding at the premiere numbers 3.0/8 with the 18-49 demo.   The rating would later be adjusted to up a tenth of a point to a 3.1.  Suddenly the future of “Terra Nova” looks a lot rosier.

TERRA NOVA Ratings Not Bronto-Sized!

Monday night’s premiere of Fox’s Spielberg produced sci-fi extravaganza “Terra Nova” scored a 3.0 rating, and an 8 share, with the 18-49 demo.  This landed it in third place behind CBS and ABC for the night.  This is likely a huge disappointment to Fox who were expected a major score from this expensive show.  The word “flop” is being bandied about.  An early cancellation looks likely.   Proving, once again, the weakness of sci-fi as a genre on the broadcast networks.

Variety reports that Luke Goss (Blade II, Hellboy II) will appear on the Fox series “Fringe” next season.  Details of his role have not been announced.

Goss has made his reputation playing baddies.  Might be nice for “Fringe” to buck that trend.  Let’s see him as a good guy this time.

“Dollhouse” Gets Renewed!

In a surprise move, Fox chose to renew Joss Whedon’s “Dollhouse,” despite weak ratings and mixed reviews.

But we think this is a smart move.  The show was always intended to be a grower with a complex and fascinating story arc.  We saw this fact early on.   And it’s one of the reasons the Ghost Radio gang stuck with the show despite some less than amazing early episodes.

And with DVR viewership high, and DVD pre-orders stellar, Fox saw a continuation of the show as worth the risk, especially as they’re demanding budget cuts.

So get your friends to pick up the DVD boxset this summer, and spend some time in the “Dollhouse,” so that next year’s ratings prove that Fox was smart to stick with this promising show.

BTW, it took everything we have not to headline this “Dollhouse Gets New Stories.”  Get it?  Stories … Dollhouse ….

Aren’t you glad we restrained ourselves?
