Bill Nighy Turned Down Lead in “Doctor Who”!

Posted in Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Horror, Television with tags , , , on June 7, 2012 by ghostradioworld

Since before the reboot, many “Doctor Who” fans believed Bill Nighy would be perfect for the role of the centuries old Time Lord.  There were even rumors that he had been offered the role and turned it down.  But there was never proof.  Now there is!  In an interview with The People, Nighy had this to say:

I was offered the role once, I won’t tell you when because the rule is that you’re not allowed to say you turned that job down because it’s disrespectful to whoever did it. I will say that I was approached.

But I didn’t want to be the Doctor. No disrespect to Doctor Who or anything. I just think that it comes with too much baggage.

The “two much baggage” comment is believed to be a reference to the intense media scrutiny stars of “Doctor Who” endure.  It’s not surprising that an intensely private man like Nighy would not welcome this.

The Doctor’s Daughter “Jenny” to Return in “Doctor Who” Finale!

Or at least that’s what a lot of fans thought when this very Time Lady-ish photo was released labelled “Jenny”.  For those who don’t remember, “Jenny” was a character who appeared in a series four episode entitled “The Doctor’s Daughter“.  She wasn’t actually the Doctor’s daughter, but a person created by a machine using the Doctor’s DNA.  She seemingly died at the end of the episode, but was revived in an epilogue.  The Doctor, however,  is unaware of this.  She was originally portrayed by Georgia Moffet.  However, since she has Time Lord DNA is it believed she could regenerate.  Hence, the new actor possibly playing her (above).

Georgia Moffett is also the “Doctor’s Daughter” in another way.  Her father is Peter Davison who portrayed the fifth Doctor on the series.  And just to make this even more convoluted.  She’s currently engaged to David Tennant (the Tenth Doctor).  The couple had a child in March.  Phew.  We weren’t sure we could get that all out.

More photos from the finale after the jump … but BE WARNED some of these photos CONTAIN SPOILERS

David Tennant’s New Look

Yup, that is David Tennant in his role as Peter Vincent in upcoming remake of eighties horror-comedy classic Fright Night.  In the original, Peter Vincent (played by Roddy McDowall)  was a former horror actor who was relegated to hosting a local creature feature broadcast.  But in the remake he’s a successful magician.  The photo above is a banner advertising one of his performances.

Cool look.  But we still dig Roddy McDowall.  And his look.  (Above.)

Video: Pertwee and Tennant Support Labour Party

In this ad two actors with “Doctor Who” connections show their support for the Labour Party in the upcoming UK elections.   The onscreen actor is Sean Pertwee the son of Jon Pertwee who played the Doctor from 1970-74.  Sean makes a reference to his father at the beginning of the video.   David Tennant, who played the Doctor from 2005-2010, offers the voice over at the end of the video.

And, whatever you politics, I think most would admit it’s quite an effective ad.   It’s also a must watch for “Doctor Who” completists.
