It’s been two years since “Lost” ended.  And it’s probably been about that long since you thought about the ending.  Well, prepare to get yourself back in that mindset.

To think about Jack, Kate and Sawyer.  About Jacob and “smoke monsters”.  And about the meaning behind Jack’s closing eye.  As you watching the following interview where writer-producer Damon Lindelof, again, discussing his decision making decisions when creating the ending of “Lost”.

Here’s two brand new shots from the set of J. J. Abrams’ Star Trek 2.   Although they don’t tell us much about the new movie.  The photo above does suggest that Benedict Cumberbatch is playing a Star Fleet officer, because he’s wearing a black Star Fleet tunic under his jacket.  And he appears to be vulnerable to the Vulcan neck pinch.  Yup, we know, not much to go on.

Gay Character in Next STAR TREK Movie?

Posted in Movies, Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Horror, Television with tags , , , , , , , , on August 6, 2011 by ghostradioworld

J. J. Abrams was asked by Afterelton if he’d put any thought into adding a gay character to the next “Star Trek” film.  He responded:

… that it is, you know, something that I would love to do …

But he quickly tossed in a bunch of caveats:

… but just the way I would be careful doing a story that would involve any of the characters and their personal lives. The balance is always, what how does that story relate to sort of the bad guy, which by the way is always going to be that critical thing, what are they up against? The question how do you get into literally these are personal sexual lives of these characters? Like what is that going to be about.

In short, it looks unlikely that J.J. will put a gay character in the flick.  We always thought “Star Trek” would be the first major sci-fi franchise to feature a continuing gay or bi character.  But “Doctor Who” now holds that prize with Captain Jack Harkness.  Who also became the first gay or bi main character in a sci-fi show, when “Torchwood” was launched in 2006.

STAR TREK 2 May Be Pushed Back to a Christmas 2012!

Posted in Movies, Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Horror, Television with tags , , , , , , , , on May 24, 2011 by ghostradioworld

According to Deadline, J.J. Abrams’ sequel to his 2009 Star Trek reboot may not be able to meet it’s summer 2012 release date.  The reason?  The writers ( Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof) have been busy with other projects and have been unable to finish the script.  They’ve handed in a 70 page outline, but haven’t even begun the shooting script.  Meanwhile J.J. has been busy with Super 8 (and other projects), so he hasn’t been there to crack the whip or lend a hand.

So what do you think of this news?  Upset that the film will be delayed?  Or glad they’re taking some extra time to get it right?

Lindelof Not Up for Geek Fight!

George R. R. Martin vs. Damon Lindelof.  It looked to be one of the best geek fights in online history.  It had it all.   Sci-fi vs. fantasy.  TV vs. literature.  Young vs. old.  Twitter vs. The New Yorker.  In short, a big crateful of awesome.

It all began when fantasy author George R. R. Martin told The New Yorker that he was taking his time with end of his book series (A Song of Ice and Fire), because he didn’t want it to have a conclusion like “Lost”.

I felt so cheated when we got to the conclusion [of 'Lost'] … I want to give [my readers] something terrific … if I do a ‘Lost’? Then they’ll come after me with pitchforks and torches.

Hear the rest of this thrilling story after the jump …

Ridley Scott’s Alien Prequel Shelved!

Posted in Movies, Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Horror with tags , , , , , , , on January 17, 2011 by ghostradioworld

In a shocking development for Hollywood,  a studio has opted for originality over franchise.  What?!?  Tell us it isn’t true.  Well, we can’t, because they have.

Ridley Scott has shelved his plans to make a prequel to Alien in favor of directing an original sci-fi film entitled Prometheus.  Here’s the skinny from EW:

“The Alien Prequel” has morphed into something else entirely — a film called Prometheus, slated for release March 9, 2012. The script, written by Scott and Damon Lindelof, will tell a completely different science fiction tale. “While Alien was indeed the jumping off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place,” Scott explains in the press release. “The keen fan will recognize strands of Alien’s DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative.” Swedish actress Noomi Rapace (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) is already attached to star in one of the film’s five major roles, a “scientist” named Elizabeth Shaw.

We’re excited that Scott is doing sci-fi.  And even more excited that it’s ORIGINAL sci-fi.  And with “Lost” scribe Damon Lindelof handling the writing chores, we bet it will genuinely be original.

“Lost” Producer Digs “The Event”, But Ratings Fall

Posted in Ghosts, UFOs, Video with tags , , , , , , , , on September 28, 2010 by ghostradioworld

Lost” writer/producer Damon Lindelof offer this positive statement about the new NBC series “The Event” on Twitter.  Of course, it also contains some of Damon’s trademark humor:

I think THE EVENT is swell, but if 24 and LOST really had a baby it would hate both its parents and regularly engage in torture.

Heh.  We actually think such good-natured comments could actually help the series.  However, the second episode saw a drop in viewership, with a 2.9/7 ratings/share, and estimated viewership of 8.9 million.

The second episodes also firmly placed “The Event” in science fiction genre with the reveal of extraterrestrial disclosure as a key to the series plot.
