As with most “Inner Sanctum” stories this involves a disturbing murder and the even more disturbing aftermath:   This time involving a cane that won’t stop tapping.

Audio: CBS RADIO MYSTERY THEATER – “The Ghost Plane”

In the seventies, a man named Himan Brown attempted to revive radio drama in the United States with a show called “CBS Radio Mystery Theater”.    The show was a big success.  Both with fans who remembered the golden age of radio, and young people who were new to radio drama.  It didn’t revive drama as a major force on radio.  But it created another generation obsessed with the form.

CBS-RMT, as fans call it, was clearly an attempt to imitate old time radio shows like “Suspense”, “Inner Sanctum”, “Lights Out”, “The Whistler”, “Mysterious Traveler”, and so on.   We think it compares favorably with most of those shows.  And the theme and the voice of host E. G. Marshall (pictured above) lend it a creepiness that still gives us shudders to this day.

This episode “The Ghost Plane”  is one of the best of the series.
