Stan Lee Tweets His Captain America Cameo!

Posted in Comics, Movies, Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Horror with tags , , , , , , , on April 7, 2011 by ghostradioworld

Stan Lee was on the set of Captain American: First Avenger yesterday and shared the experience with his fans via a series of tweets.  He started by sharing this bit of news:

Marvel Studios has upgraded my cameo for the Captain America movie! They’ve given me one more word of dialogue than originally planned!

Underlined the point:

As you know, I never ever brag, but it’s obvious they must have felt a star such as I deserves a bigger role.

Then told us what this would mean:

Of course, that extra word of dialogue means I have to re-study my role. I’ve only a few hours before my eagerly anticipated performance

Then he informed us when the great event would come:

Harken ye, my warriors! The moment hath come. The director calls. All eyes my way do turn as upon the set doth fall an expectant hush.

Then wrapped the whole thing up:

Rejoice, my brave Brigadiers! Thy beloved Generalissimo hath returned from his hazardous Captain America cameo, victorious and unscathed!

Isn’t it embarrassing that an eighty-eight year-old man is better at using Twitter than everyone in Silicon Valley combined?  That was meant as a rhetorical question.  But if you have anything to say about this, share your thoughts in the comments section!

Photos: More Shots of Chris Evans in Costume as Captain America

Looks better than it has in other stills in the shot above.  But we’re still not sold.  However, this may simply be Cap’s WWII era costume.  In which case, we have to wait and see what the modern era one will look like.  Here are a couple more shots from the recent issue of Empire:

R.I.P. Wizard Magazine!

Wizard magazine is shutting down and the company (now public) will devote all its efforts to producing comic conventions.  This isn’t surprising.  Sales of the magazine had dropped significantly in the last decade.  (As they have for almost all print magazines in the U.S..)  While the convention business grew and grew.  But that doesn’t mean it isn’t a sad day.

Wizard magazine was often maligned for its slick, cheerleader attitude to the comic book industry.  But, if you were a comic book fan in the last 20 years, you read it.  And, we bet, you really liked it. (Even if you never said it out loud.)  Whereas the last decade has been marked by podcasts and websites, the nineties was the day of Wizard.  And their glossy pages, and rah-rah coverage, were the background music of the era.

It now seems the once maligned cheer-leading has been taken up by most of online news sites.  Newarama’s low brow coverage clearly owes more to Wizard than it does to Comics Journal.  But those sites don’t offer the excitement of paging through a new copy of Wizard, on the bus or Subway, and dreaming of computer colored worlds as you speed toward the doldrums of your black and white life.  Nope, they don’t come close to that.  Not by a long shot.

R.I.P. Wizard Magazine.  You will be missed.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER – Red Skull Look Revealed!

Posted in Comics, Games, Photos, Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Horror with tags , , , , , , , on January 20, 2011 by ghostradioworld

Nope, this isn’t a photo from the movie.  These images  show the prototype for the movie tie-in Halloween costume.  And it gives us a pretty good idea what the effect will look like.  And we can definitely see Hugo Weaving coming through in that face.

So we weren’t too keen on the photo revealing Cap’s costume.  That Reb Brownesque atrocity.  But the Red Skull design is much more to our liking.  This movie might be saved by its villian.

This (above)  is Chris Evans in his Captain America costume in the upcoming Captain American film.  Ugh … color us unimpressed.  The whole thing feels just too, too Reb Brown.   Don’t remember Reb Brown?

That’s Reb Brown (above).  Not enough for you?  Check out the thrilling ::cough:: video after the jump …
