At the premiere of Avatar, director Bryan Singer told a reporter:

I just yesterday signed a deal to do an X-Men: First Class Origins picture, which is kind of cool. I’m very excited.

Fans of the series will be glad to have Singer back in the director’s chair, but many remain skeptical about the prequel concept for this film.  Still … Singer … X-men … should be fun.

Update:  Matthew Vaughn, director of Kick Ass, has replaced Singer on this project.  H’wood is such a strange place.  Kick Ass bombs at the box office.  But, nonetheless, its director lands a top gig.   Failing upwards … and upwards.  We should all be so lucky in our chosen professions.

We recently reported Bryan Singer’s involvement as director on a “Battlestar Galactica” feature film.  Now CHUD is reporting that Singer has his eye on  several other projects.  In addition to “Battlestar”, he’s also looking at remaking John Boorman’s King Arthur epic Excalibur, a new “dark” version of Jack the Giant Killer, and X-Men: First Class another mutant outing which examines the early days of Professor Xavier’s “School for Gifted Youngsters.”

There’s no clear indication about which of these projects he’s likely to take, but none seem fast-tracked.  We bet another project will strike his fancy before any of these above go before the lens.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that X-Men and Valkyrie director Bryan Singer has landed the directing and producing duties on a Battlestar Galactica feature film.  The film will not be a continuation of the Syfy Channel series, but a completely new re-imagining.  Original series creator Glen Larson will also be producing.

This is sure to annoy fans of the recent reboot.  But we expect it might thrill fans of the original, hoping Singer might return some of the classic attributes of that series to the franchise.
