Australian astrophysicist Stephen Hughes claims that “ball lightning” may explain some usual lights seen in over Brisbane in 2006. He went further to argue:
If you put together inexplicable atmospheric phenomena, maybe of an electrical nature, with human psychology and the desire to see something – that could explain a lot of these UFO sightings.
It should be noted that “ball lightning” has been one of the go to “explanations” for UFOs for decades. And, though it sounds scientific, so-called “ball lightning” is a unproven phenomena. Color us crazy, but we’ve never understood the validity of explaining one unproven phenomena with another.
