This fall the CW will introduce a remake of the British cult series “The Tomorrow People”.  Get a first look and some background info after the jump.  Or is that “jaunt’?

What is “The Tomorrow People”?  It was a British children’s series that aired between 1973 and 1979.  It followed the story of a group of young people who were the next stage in human evolution.  They had telepathic abilities, telekinesis and the ability to teleport.  They called the latter “jaunting”.  They used these powers to protect the human race from all manner of threats.  Everything from aliens to right wing coups.   The show was a has maintained a strong cult following.  One of the things that it’s best remember for is it’s compelling title sequence:

A reboot of the series occurred in the nineties.  It ran for three series.  To somewhat less acclaim.  This takes us to the present.  And the CW’s revamp.  It appears to keep the basic premise.  But skews the cast, and audience appeal, somewhat older.  It also adds some flashy Matrix-ish effects.  Here’s a brief preview:

The news series has been developed by Greg Berlanti (“Arrow” and “Dawson’s Creek”) and Julie Plec (“Vampire Diaries”). It stars Robbie Amell (“1600 Penn”), Peyton List (“Mad Men”, “90210″),  Luke Mitchell (“Home and Away”) and TV stalwart Mark Pelegrino (“Lost”, “Supernatural”, “Revolution”).

Cautious optimism seems in order.  Both for fans of the original series (us!) and people new to the material.  It is, however, something of a pity that it is a remake rather than a sequel.  It would be nice if the previous series existed in some sense in the universe of the new series.  However, perhaps they’ll introduce some of this as the show progresses.

Riddick returns this fall in his third cinematic outing.  Watch the first trailer after the jump.

Joining Vin Diesel in this outing are Karl Urban (Star Trek, Dredd) and Katee Sackhoff (“Battlestar Galactica”).  And, of course, it is once again directed by David Twohy.

Above is the new design for the return of classic “Doctor Who”  monster to this year.   As you’ll note it draws heavily on the design (below) from classic series .  Classic series fans are especially excited about this design.

Although purists point out that the new design lacks the clamp shaped hands,  the fur trim, and the pear shaped body.

What do you think?   Is the new design a great way of honoring the past?  Too faithful?  Or, for those clamp hand fans out there,  not faithful enough?

Pictured above is an experimental aircraft built by the USAF in 1956-57 known as “Project 1794″.  It was built by the Canadian company Avro Aircraft, LTD.  It was tested in  Malton, Ontario.  The test version was subsonic, but a Mach 4 version was on the drawing table.

However, the aircraft proved unstable and possess too little power to maintain lift.    One individual who claims to have seen the test, stated:

It was like a dropped plate trying to spin on its edge, almost completely out of control. Later in free flight it could only fly a few feet off the ground and had trouble flying across ditches.

The project was apparently abandoned after these unsuccessful tests.  But one wonders why the USAF had a craft built that so closely resembled the “flying saucer” reports of the period.  This story came to light to do recently declassified USAF records.

In an appearance on Friday, on ITV’s “This morning”, when asked about his  involvement in this year’s “Doctor Who” 50th anniversary season, he responded:

I haven’t had any information up until just about right now.  And all I can say to you is we’re discussing things.

Then with visible enthusiasm he added:

That’s a total exclusive!  You guys are the first to ever hear.  Even yesterday I was giving interviews and I was saying I’ve heard nothing.  And now I can give you a little bit of an exclusive.

Later he noted:

It’s all very secretive.

Fascinating documentary about the mass UFO sighting at the Westfall State School in Melbourne, Australia.

In honor of President’s Day, here’s a thrilling audio drama involving a man who would one day become president.  A drama that claims:

“It’s Murder, Mr. Lincoln” originally aired on the “CBS Mystery Theater” on March 18, 1975.  However, this version was created later for rebroadcast.  The main content of the program is the same.  But E.G. Marshall’s hosting sections are replaced by identical ones done by series creator Himan Brown.  The graphic above features an etching of Abraham Lincoln’s law office in Springfield, Illinois.

Yesterday’s event in Russia was a powerful, impressive and rare.    Scientists are currently claiming that the explosion, apparently caused by a meteor, over Russian yesterday had the force of 30 Hiroshima bombs.  But 100 years ago in a region of Siberia called Tunguska an explosion occurred that equaled 1,000 Hiroshima bombs.  Yup, you read that right!  1,000 Hiroshima bombs.
