Yup, DC Comics’ iconic superhero Wonder Woman is getting a reboot. And Internet maven Nikki Finke is first out of the gate to bash it. She argues that in the new costume (above), “[Wonder Woman] looks ready for Goth Day at the Sherman Oaks Galleria”. She also decries the decision to give the reboot to a male writer, and suggests a campaign to “free Wonder Woman!”
Reboot writer J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5) doesn’t do himself any favors with this description of the new Wonder Woman:
This is Wonder Woman reborn, literally and metaphorically: fast, elegant, tough, smart…the savior of her people, their guardian and protector …
And he also takes time out to knock Denny O’Neill’s highly regarded WW reboot in the late sixties:
What we also haven’t seen before is her new look, the first significant change in her appearance since the character debuted in 1941 (not counting the mod look used briefly in the sixties, about which the less said the better).
This quote lead Mark Waid to post via Twitter:
Dear big-name comics egomaniac: just ONCE can you talk about your genius in an interview without crapping on the work of your predecessors?
Well said, Mr. Waid.
