Ridley Scott Taking on “Pompeii”

Variety reports that Ridley Scott will produce a miniseries based on Robert Harris’ (Fatherland) ’03 best selling novel Pompeii for Sony Pictures Television .  The novel combines elements of romance, disaster, and adventure as it follows the story of Roman engineer’s attempts to outrun the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.   Scott replaces Roman Polanski who was to adapt the novel as a feature film, but left the project due to delays caused by the WGA strike.

  1. I’m sure i could get terribly embarassed here, but isn’t the writer of silence of the lambs Thomas Harris, rather than Robert(who knows…,maybe it’s his less remembered brother)

    • Oops, you’re right. A lesson to us all, Jes. Always double check your facts.

Robert Harris wrote the novel Fatherland. An alternate history, crime thriller about a world in which Germany won WWII. It was made into a film for HBO in 1994 which starred Rutger Hauer and Miranda Richardson.

Again, thanks for the catch. The post has been corrected.
