Twilight Saga News: (Update: Boo Boo Makes Boo Boo) There Will be a Fifth Film!

Boo Boo Stewart

In an interview with Access Hollywood, Boo Boo Stewart, who will be playing “Seth Clearwater” in the Eclipse, stated that there will be three additional films in the series after New Moon.

“There’s going to be Eclipse, Breaking Dawn and there’s going to be one more,” he told the interviewer.  This should be great news for Twilight fans.  But what will this film be about?

It could be Midnight Sun, the book Stephenie Meyer is working on now, which offers Edward Cullen’s view of the events in Twilight, or it could be an entirely different project.

An excerpt of Midnight Sun is available at Meyer’s website.  And you can see the full interview with Stewart here.

Update: It seems Stewart spoke too soon.  A rep for Summit Entertainment has this  to say about his comments:

We appreciate our young actor’s enthusiasm for the franchise and his role, but his comments about the number of films were unfortunately uninformed and not accurate,” the Summit rep said in a statement to Access.

Although BooBoo has contract options for additional films after “Eclipse,” there are no guarantees yet that those films will be made.

Not a complete denial.

Tarantino Soars, “Avatar Day” Falls?

Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds seems headed for his biggest opening yet with a $14 million Friday, leaving experts to predict at least a $30 million weekend.  Meanwhile CHUD is trying to gin up claims that “Avatar Day” day was a flop.  CHUD maven Devin Faraci has been attacking Avatar since comic-con, so we should take these claims with a grain of salt.

Faraci blames it on art direction:

I suspect that what might be the culprit here is the design of the Na’vi [the film's alien race, pictured above]; personally I hate it, and I’ve seen many reactions that are less than favorable.

Though he admits:

That’s just a totally blind guess, though, based on little to nothing solid.

He also suggests:

his last theatrical film hit 12 years ago and it was a chick flick. Massive amounts of Avatar‘s potential audience have never seen a James Cameron film in theaters.

Setting aside the absurdly reductive notion of  Titanic being just “a chick flick”, this, if true, also means:  Modern audiences audience haven’t been treated to Cameron’s superior filmmaking skills.  He’s one of the few writer/directors working in the action/sci-fi genres.  Also, Avatar is one of the few big budget originals in years.  So all those whining about sequels and remakes, should herald Avatar.

However, others were mesmerized.  Kevin Carr of Film School Rejects says:

It is as if one of Boris’ covers came to life and jumped on my lap in the IMAX theater tonight. The experience was a visual masterpiece.

We expect to see such conflicting views until Avatar opens in December.  But, frankly, we can’t wait to see this film.

If you got a chance to go to the “Avatar Day” screening let us know what you thought.
