Del Toro Gives Young Filmmakers a Leg Up!
Hollywood isn’t a place where helping newcomers is that common. But Guillermo Del Toro shows once again that he breaks the mold, not only in regard to his massive talent, but also by helping struggling filmmakers turn their dreams into reality.
Here’s what a Hollywood Reporter blog has to say on his latest effort in this area:
Universal is developing the horror tale “Mama,” a debut project from a pair of young filmmakers, and in negotiations to produce the film and mentor the filmmakers is one Guillermo del Toro.
Andy and Barbara Muschietti are writing the English-language script based on their acclaimed Spanish-language short “Mama,” with Andy directing and Barbara producing. If he climbs aboard, Del Toro would hands-on with the pic in a manner not dissimilar to his work with Juan Antonio Bayona on his “The Orphanage.”
And Del Toro also has taste. If this film is even half as good as The Orphanage we’re in for a treat.
